A New York City detective is helping his fellow NYPD officers catch a criminal in the act of robbing a bar.
A retired New York cop is trying to stop a drug lord from killing his family.
And the FBI’s top agent is investigating the murder of a family friend.
The NYPD has been investigating the killing of a Brooklyn couple, who were killed after they went to a New York restaurant and tried to buy marijuana for a friend’s baby.
The New York Police Department said that the couple was inebriated and their actions were criminal.
The NYPD and its agents have been on the hunt for the couple since at least April.
The suspect, James DeLeon, 30, was taken into custody on April 15 and charged with murder.
Police sources said DeLeon was in the United States illegally, but they weren’t certain about that until this week.
According to court documents, DeLeon had been living in New York for at least six months before his arrest.
He was originally from New York but moved to the U.S. to escape the city’s drug crackdown, a law enforcement source told ABC News.
DeLeon, who is black, is a former FBI agent who worked in the bureau’s Brooklyn field office from 2011 to 2014.
He has been under federal investigation since his arrest in the early morning hours of April 15, 2016.
The U.K. national newspaper The Daily Mail reported that DeLeon told authorities he was looking to buy $2,000 worth of marijuana from a New Jersey convenience store.
DeLeon then got into an altercation with two men and a woman who had entered the store with a friend.
According for a federal criminal complaint, Deleon then demanded $1,800 and ordered the man to pay the cashier.
The man refused.
The complaint said that when DeLeon ordered the woman to get out of the store, he pushed her into the ground and held her down while the men allegedly punched her repeatedly.
The woman’s friend then ran out of a store and called police.
De Leon allegedly told the police that he knew the man, the woman and the woman’s boyfriend, and that they were all there because he wanted to sell drugs.
De Leon was charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
Deleon has pleaded not guilty to murder and one count of assault with a dangerous weapon.
The criminal complaint said De Leon was not under the influence of drugs when he allegedly struck the woman.
According the complaint, police arrested De Leon on Tuesday after the woman who called 911 told officers that she was struck by a bullet fired from a handgun.
The complaint did not say what weapon was fired.
Deleon is scheduled to appear in federal court on Wednesday.
He is expected to be sentenced on May 6.
DeLeons attorney, Thomas J. Koehler, said that his client will plead not guilty.
He told ABC that De Leon is an American citizen and a former member of the NYPD.
“This is a very sad day for all New Yorkers,” Koehlers attorney, Michael Whelan, said in a statement.
“James DeLeon has worked for the New York police department for over 30 years, he is a good man and has always served his community well.”
DeLeon’s wife, Shireen, told ABC affiliate WABC-TV in New Jersey that she has been working on her son’s education while she is working to secure legal aid for her husband.
DeLovers attorney, John P. McMahon, told WABC that Deleon was trying to help a friend who had recently died.
DeLovers lawyer said that he has been to jail, but De Leon has not been arrested.ABC News’ Mike Levine and Kate Bedingfield contributed to this report.
